Osteoarthritis treatment
1 min read
Due to the increased life expectancy and the higher stress on the joints during leisure time, the number of patients suffering from osteoarthritis has risen sharply.
In addition, as has always been the case, obesity and the consequences of joint misalignments, as well as the consequences of accidents, lead to increased and premature wear and tear of the joints. If, for whatever reason, a joint is worn out, this can lead to pain (initially mainly start-up pain and nocturnal pain at rest) and a significant reduction in quality of life.
Arthrosis
However, since nowadays the demand of patients for a painless and extensive use of their body has grown significantly into old age and on the other hand almost 2/3 of all people over 65 years of age suffer from osteoarthritis, medicine and industry have been spurred on to do justice to this contradiction. And this (at least in part) with great success. Today, it is not possible to correct causes such as deformities, bow legs or knock knees prematurely, but also to replace worn-out joints with artificial joints with great success and very good results.
Especially on the knee and hip, the results are very convincing. With an artificial knee or hip replacement, you can perform many sports and almost all things of everyday life. Of course, a joint does not always have to be replaced. Physiotherapy, medication, injections... can lead to success in certain cases.
What can help, whether and when an operation is useful and possible (also depending on the general condition and possibly other diseases of the heart, lungs...), must always be decided after a detailed examination (with X-ray, CT or MRI) and consultation with the doctor.
